New briquetting press produces square briquettes |

 |
| WEIMA Maschinenbau GmbH, Ilsfeld,
has developed a new th 70 K briquetting press (photo) with which production of
square cross-section briquettes has been made possible. Square cross-section
briquettes, in contrast to those with a round cross-section, can be stacked,
enable better utilisation of packaging and increase marketing opportunities for
the producer on account of improved handling. |

Briquetting presses are
used in carpentry and other craftsman’s workshops and in industry for
briquetting as a means of volume reduction of not only wood shavings, sawdust,
grinding dust and wood chippings, but also of paper, expanded polystyrene foam,
light metal, etc. Apart from production of heating energy at the point at which
they are made, the briquettes are often marketed elsewhere, which will become of
increasing commercial interest in future on account of rising demand.
The new th 70 K briquetting presses produce briquettes with a stable shape, with
consistent external dimensions of 70 mm x 70 mm and length of up to 100 mm,
whereby the length produced can be set and monitored. The briquettes are
produced by hydraulic pressure, without the use of binders. The hydraulic drive
of both the pre-compressor/filling cylinder and of the main press cylinder is
applied via the equipment’s own pump with a power rating of 7.5 kW or 15 kW. The
300-litre hydraulic volume available in the system has been designed very
generously, guaranteeing a constant, low oil temperature, also during continuous
operation.
Throughput depends on the material and lies in the region of approx. 200 kg/h.
The briquetting presses are also offered in an optional Duo version that
provides a corresponding doubling of the throughput. This leads, in contrast
with the simple version, to lower operating costs and thereby higher efficiency.
Apart from that, the Duo version guarantees availability of the second press
unit in the event of the other press unit breaking down.
The shape of the briquette and therefore of the packaging can be varied. Round
section briquettes to be bagged in a bagging carousel can, for example, be
produced in one press unit, while square section briquettes are produced on the
other press unit for packing in cardboard boxes or wrapping in film sealed by
welding. This way, sales units can be produced quickly and flexibly in
accordance with specific customer requirements.
